Judges Selection Procedure
Hawaii Judges Selection:
Meet host must submit a “Judge’s Request” to NAWGJ-HI for judges to be assigned to their meets, at which time you may request specific judges be assigned to the meet. If no specific judges are requested, the assigner will contract judges with the required ratings needed for the meet, with local judges given priority.
For State meets, the State Committee will consider Hawaii judges who have judged at that level during the current season, with preference to the judges with at least three years’ experience at that level. If not, enough Hawaii judges are available, out-of-state judges with at least three years’ experience at that level will be considered. The committee will also choose the Meet Referee, who will be allowed to make the event assignments.
The State Committee will also choose judges each August to submit to the regional committee for Regional, Western, and National assignments. A list of qualified judges will be submitted by NAWGJ. First consideration will be the availability of the judges followed by rating and when they judged regionals last. Two judges will be submitted plus 1 alternate. National Level judges will have priority for regional meets for Level 8 and up. For Level 6 and 7, two different judges (one judge and one alternate) will be put forth to the regional committee. These judges may include those with a Level 10 rating.
